WEST AFRICAN GLASS INDUSTRY
West African Glass Industry Plc (WAGI)
was incorporated in Nigeria on 20th April 1972 to take
over the business of Nigerian Glass Co limited in Port
Harcourt with the aim of producing Green and Amber bottle
for Beer and soft Drinks Market. The initial capacity
of Plant was 12,000 TPA and was initiated with a loan
from Federal Government and from River State government.
During 1982 it had a major Investment
of putting a new 110 TPD Glass Plant in addition to the
2 Old 55 TPD each Existing Glass plant. Messrs Coutinho
Caro & Co London executed the said Plant and was completed
in 1983
In 1985 the company went Public and the River State Government
retained only 41% shareholding
Following the prolonged oil Workers strike
of 1994 The Factory was closed down.
In May 1996 the River State Government
commenced Action in the company by providing logistic
to create a suitable environment to attract a core Investor
to Reactivate the Plant
After the Core Investor took charge, the Reactivation
Activities on One Furnace commenced and successful production
started in July 2002. The installed Capacity therefore
is 110 TPD at present.
